The contemporary space of design and architecture is mainly dominated by a visual culture (Palasmaa 2007). With this cenceptual design, we wanted to investigate alternatives to the contemporary wieght on visual stimuli in modern interfaces.
MyScapes is an attempt to make a social media app focusing on sounds rather than images. The idea is based upon the theories of Morten Breinbjerg (2003), that non-musical sounds act as aesthetic objects that, through its sensory stimuli, can affect feelings and elicit certain memories for the listener. In other words, is our concept an auditory social media platform called MyScapes. MyScapes works like a conventional social media where users can follow each other, upload and see each other's posts. The content is original in the sense that the user records various sounds that are processed during upload to an image via an algorithm (based values from the sound's treble-, mid- and bass-tones). Below the processed image is the audio file from which it was created which is also playable. In addition, each lookup is associated with a Geotag, date and how many times the sound has been played.
